In redesigning a well-revered longboard, it’s possible to dismiss any and all notions that such a process would be considered “spiritual.” Yet, consider this: “A member of an order noted for devotional exercises involving movements of the body,” known as Dervish, based the foundation towards the initial offering of the Loaded Dervish Longboard. Generation 2 aligns Dervish with Sama ”the ascent – through meditation – beyond the confines of thought to attain a heightened state of maturity and closeness to God,” creating a 42.8 inch second coming of an otherworldly, bamboo perfected deck. The all new Dervish Sama is a longboard prodigy , well in touch with its virtuous roots, and a noble drop-through construction predecessor to the flagship model within the Loaded lineup. A widely defined, concave enhanced, flex-ready bamboo platform encompasses the deck’s core – THE mainstay, providing unparalleled responsiveness, controlled balance & comfort to support your trick & ride arsenal. Newly adapted, subtle yet very influential, nose and tail kicks lift this righteous redesign to the capable forefront of progressive freestyle riding. To retain such stability, both neck and drop-through sections are reinforced with sheeted fiberglass to ensure long-term durability. A strategy of epic proportions, the new Dervish Sama incorporates a seemingly abstract yet symmetrical 6-piece grip tape scheme to further sustain the boards unique flex pattern. Completing the Dervish Sama’s evolution towards a heightened state of pure awesomeness is the deck’s whirling dervish theme, now revealed in a slightly more abstract form with equally simplistic appeal – created by Diana Gracida of Nana Studios. 10 inch (180 mm) trucks with 70mm+ wheels, and are subject to specific rider-tweaked modifications. As a believer in all things reconsidered (within the action sports realm), BC Surf & Sport and BCSurf.com now carries the all new Dervish Sama deck and complete longboard setup for your downhill, carving, freestyle whirling enjoyment. And for all you “ol’skoolers” who wish to possess the original testament no longer in production, BC Surf & Sport still has the first generation Dervish in stock – while they last.

You know all the superstition that comes on Friday the 13th?, don’t walk under a latter, making sure to avoid black cats and anybody donning a hockey mask wielding a machete, and if you watch the “Kardasians” your eyes will fall out. Well have no fear, because on Friday the 18th, the only superstitions you will need to follow is to not “look Matt French, directly in the eyes”.
That’s right, this Friday, May 18th BC Seattle will be hosting their 3rd Friday Art Walk! The event kicks off at 5pm and will display rad-tastic pieces from Lib and GNU artists, Ryan Davis, Matt French, and Timothy Karpinski.
And that’s just half the fun and excitement. The Art Walk is just the 1st quarter fun. All weekend long, BC Seattle will be having their grand opening celebration, full of fun, food, sunshine (maybe), and hi-fives from the whole BC crew. The grand opening will be nice on the eyes as well as the wallet, with savings up to 40% off, you’d think your eyes were playing tricks on you when the receipt comes.
So come down to BC Seattle (4514 University Way NE) this Friday, May 18th for a weekend full of Art, Hi-Fives, and savings galore!
The Big Top, The Desk Top, the Mountain Top, Carrot Top, all these things dwarf in comparison to the 3rd lairs “Top Shop”. The annual shop competition, that houses the most beastly and talented shop skaters the U.S. has to offer, and pits them against each other in a skate battle royale. It is the Top Shops 10th year anniversary and the BC skate team is there to celebrate it and annihilate it . This year many shop kids came, but few succeeded; the competition welcomed 20 teams but at the end of the second day (May 5th) only 8 teams survived, and standing in the 5th bracket is yours truly..team BC!
Here is a quote from BC‘s team manager Matt Reeves, giving us a recap and highlights of team BC’s second day.
“We made it to the finals. We came in 5th overall out of 20 teams. Tyson Browerbank came in 4th overall. All the guys had to do a solo one minute run today which was worth 1/3 of their total score and a 5 minute jam which included 4 riders from other teams which was worth the 2/3rd’s. Only 8 teams make in to the finals and with us being the 5th seed. Tomorrow morning we go head to head against the 4th seed. Wish us luck!”
