We’re proud to announce that a South Florida local took the #1 spot in the
Volcom Stone your boardies contest! We sat down to find out what’s really on Ft. Lauderdale Ocean Rescue Lifeguard Tom Frezza’s mind.
BC: What made you decide to compete in the Volcom Stone Your
Boardshorts Contest?
Tom: I’ve always designed T-shirts and fun things like that and have always wanted to design my own pair of
boardshorts, so I figured this would be a good opportunity.
BC: What inspired your design?
Tom: I also do a lot of carving and the natural wood grain has always put me in a daze. So I came up with a cool woody design.
BC: Your boardshorts are called the “Tree Trunks.” Do you encourage tree hugging?
Tom: Only when they hug back.
BC: How long have you been creating artwork?
Tom: Ever since I could pee in the snow.
BC: So you’re an Ocean Rescue Lifeguard. How long have you been saving lives and taking names?
Tom: Going on 5 years… No names, please.
BC: What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever seen on the beach?
Tom: Fun drunk chick fighting with dropkicks.
BC: What sports are you into?
Tom: Surfing….. Duh….
BC: How many times have you rolled an ATV?
Tom: I don’t do drugs.
BC: What’s your craziest lifeguard story?
Tom: Fat guys in small
bikinis…. Always a good story.
BC: Do you feel that winning this contest has benfitted you as an artist?
Tom: No cheese intended, but absolutely. There is so much out there that inspires me and I hope that my art can do the same for others. I feel thankful and honored for the recognition.
We can’t wait to see these bad boys in person.
Thanks, Tom and Congratulations from all of us at BC!
