QUADRAFLEX FIREWIRE SURFBOARDS Article
Written by BC Surf & Sport ( www.bcsurf.com)

With the popularity of the quad fin surfboard on the rise, it is no surprise that Firewire Surfboards has introduced their own version which they call the Quadraflex. The Quadraflex is basically a performance shortboard that has four fins. It is based on the Alternator series an already proven design in Firewire’s quiver of boards, but they have made a few tweaks to maximize the benefit from the use of four fins. The widest point of this board is behind center, which helps to make for a wider tail and a curvy outline, creating a point for the board to turn off of. It has a little flatter rocker to help maintain speed when floating through those mushy sections. The Quadraflex comes in a swallow tail which helps the board hold better in good waves but has the perfect balance of volume over the tail for when it is small. The end result is a super fast board that will do everything. Hit the lip, boost some airs, or get barreled - the Quadraflex can do it all.
The construction of this board is the same as all other Firewire surfboards and utilizes Firewire’s Future Shapes Technology. This is a l lb. EPS blank with parabolic balsa rail stringers that gets sandwiched between a high density skin which is then laminated with fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin. As with all other Firewires, this board has a “no maintenance vent” in the deck to let the core of the board expand and contract because of changes in air pressure or temperature. All Quadraflex boards come with FCS fins in the Stretch QUAD fin template.

This board will work well in about any surf conditions but, would probably be best in knee high to a little overhead or when you are surfing waves where you want to gain as much speed as possible. Due to the many sizes available, the Quadraflex can be surfed by just about any skill level of surfer. Firewire recommends riding this board an inch or two shorter than your standard shortboard, because of the extra volume from the width. Quads really are proving to be not just another surfing fad and are rapidly on their way to becoming a standard in the surfing industry.
